Anarchi
University of South Australia Master of Architecture & Bachelor of Interior Architecture 2012 Graduate Exhibition
Design, Typography, Production
‘Anarchi’ was the graduating students theme for their end-of-year exhibition where their work looked to the future and proposed paradigms for design renewal, accompanied by assiduously detailed, exquisitely hand-crafted and somewhat unconventional design options. From their perspective it was a ‘call-to-arms’ against Australia’s adherence to conservatism in architecture and interior design, echoing Mick Jagger’s claim that ‘anarchy is the only slight glimmer of hope.’
Cul-de-sac Creative’s role was to brand the exhibition including posters and invitations and package their graduating work in the form of a printed catalogue. With a synergistic mindset the approach to the project typography was meticulous and careless. Taking this a step further, the catalogue production techniques and finishes were also designed to re-question print production methods such as book binding and guillotining.
